How to Calibrate Your Table Saw Miter Slot for Perfect Cuts

Many woodworkers buy an expensive aftermarket miter gauge, only to find their crosscuts are still off. The culprit is almost always a misalignment between the saw blade and the miter slot.
Here is the step-by-step process to fix it.
Step 1: Disconnect the Power
Safety first. Unplug the saw completely.
Step 2: Mark a Tooth
Raise the blade fully. Mark one specific tooth with a marker. You will use this exact same tooth for both front and rear measurements to eliminate errors from a warped blade.
Step 3: Measure the Front
Using a dial indicator (or a combination square if you don’t have one) registered against the miter slot, measure the distance to the marked tooth at the front of the table.
Step 4: Measure the Rear
Rotate the blade by hand so the marked tooth is at the rear. Move your measuring tool to the back and measure again.
Step 5: Adjust the Trunnions
If the measurements differ, you must loosen the bolts holding the trunnions (or the tabletop, depending on your saw type) and gently tap it into alignment. Repeat the measurements until they are identical.
